Weekend competition is run at Waratah Oval, Rawson Parade, Sutherland on Saturday mornings from 7:45am.
The main program of events begins at 8.00am and for age groups who run the 3km, this event will start at 7.45am every second week. Please be at the track for 7.30am warm up.
Each age group is run by an Age Manager who leads the group from event to event and supervises their competition. The Age Manager is also assisted by a team of parent helpers on duty to assist in the running of the competition.
Only parents that are signed on to perform a duty are allowed within the competition area (including helping the Age Manager).
The athletes can be watched from outside the competition area (i.e. behind the fence) by their parents. Except for Tiny Tots who must be accompanied by a parent.
Competition – Zone
The date varies each year but is typically in December. Zone Championships represent the first stage in gaining a place at the State Track & Field Championships.
Sutherland athletes are invited to nominate their chosen events for zone. However, final selection is determined by the Team Managers on the basis of Saturday performances as each club can only enter up to four athletes in each event.
U7-U12 can compete in up to four individual events and U13-U17 can compete in up to six individual events.
The first six athletes, from each Zone, in each event qualify for the Regionals. The next best 4 across both Zones also qualify.
Under 7 placegetters do not progress to the Regionals but do receive medals.
Competition – Region
The Regional Track & Field Championships are open to placegetters in Zone championships. The first two athletes in each event at the
Regionals qualify for State. Under 8 placegetters do not progress to the State Championships.
Competition – State
The State Track & Field Championships are the culmination of the track & field competition season and held at The Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, Homebush.
Competition – State Relays
Every year the NSW Little Athletics State Relay Championships are held at The Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, Homebush.
Teams in the age groups U8 through to U17 are eligible for this event. The Centre’s participation is dependent upon athletes in an age group being of sufficient standard to form a competitive team. See the Team Managers for further details.
Competition – State Multi
Each year the NSW Little Athletics State Multi Championships are held at a different country Centre. At State Multi, athletes compete in a number of events for an overall point score. The points are determined by a decathlon type point score system.
Competition – Australian Teams Championships
Athletes in the State Team are chosen at the State Championships from the U13 age group as well as two boys and girls selected from the U15 age group at the State Multi Event. The athletes compete as a team against all other States. The teams are selected by a LAANSW selection committee.
